# What is BigQuery export?

BigQuery export is the Google Analytics 4 feature that sends raw event data to BigQuery, Google's data warehouse, daily or as a stream. It lets you query the data with SQL and join it with ad and CRM data, without the retention, sampling and threshold limits of the GA4 interface. It is also available on standard GA4 properties.

## In short

BigQuery export takes GA4 data out of the interface's ready-made reports and makes it queryable row by row at event level. Marketing teams use it for long-term comparisons, custom attribution models and user journey analysis, and can connect the data to tools such as Looker Studio. Because the export does not backfill history, it is best switched on as soon as GA4 is set up. For example, GA4 purchase events can be joined with CRM order records in SQL to see which channel brings genuinely profitable customers.

## Key points

- It sends GA4's raw event data to BigQuery daily or as a stream.
- The link is created in GA4 admin settings by choosing a Google Cloud project.
- Data is collected from the setup date onward; history is not backfilled.
- On standard properties, the daily export has an event-count limit.
- BigQuery charges for storage and queries, so queries should be written efficiently.

## How is it set up?

You create a BigQuery link in the GA4 admin settings, choose a Google Cloud project and turn on daily or streaming export. The export collects data from the date it is set up; historical data is not backfilled.

## What to watch

On standard properties, the daily export has an event-count limit; large sites should check it. BigQuery has storage and query costs, so queries should be written efficiently.

## Why it matters

It is the foundation for long-term analysis, user journey analysis and a marketing data warehouse. More detail: [What is GA4](https://www.roicool.com/en/blog/what-is-ga4), setup: [GA4 consulting](https://www.roicool.com/en/services/ga4-consulting).
