# What is GTM engineering?

GTM engineering (go-to-market engineering) is the discipline of turning sales and marketing tasks such as finding target accounts, data enrichment, scoring, personalization and routing into automated workflows using data tools, the CRM and automation platforms. GTM here stands for go-to-market, not Google Tag Manager.

## In short

GTM engineering grew out of the need to cut the hours sales teams spend on research and to apply the same targeting rules to every record. A typical workflow builds a company list from the ICP, enriches it from several data sources, scores it with intent signals and pushes the result into the CRM. Tools such as Clay, Apollo, CRMs and Make, n8n or Zapier are combined. For example, SaaS companies that have just raised funding can be listed and assigned to a rep automatically.

## Key points
