# What is Intent data?

Intent data is behavioral signals showing that a company or person is researching a specific product or topic. First-party intent data comes from visits to your own site; third-party intent data comes from research behavior observed across providers' content networks. In B2B it is used to prioritize accounts.

## In short

In practice, intent data helps sales and marketing reach accounts while they are actively researching, rather than months before or after. Third-party intent is probabilistic and does not prove a buying decision on its own; it becomes useful when combined with first-party signals and fit against the ideal customer profile. Where personal data is processed, KVKK and GDPR obligations apply. A target account that visits your pricing page while also researching your category elsewhere, for example, can move up the sales team's list.

## Key points

- Intent data is behavioural signals showing that a company or person is researching a topic.
- First-party intent comes from your own channels; third-party intent comes from providers' networks.
- Third-party intent is probabilistic and does not show a buying decision on its own.
- It is most useful when read alongside first-party signals and ICP fit.
- Processing personal data requires a KVKK and GDPR assessment.

## Types

| Type | Source | Example |
| --- | --- | --- |
| First-party | Your own site, email, product | A target account visiting the pricing page |
| Third-party | Data providers' networks | Companies researching a topic heavily |

## What to watch

Third-party intent data is probabilistic; on its own it does not show a buying decision. It becomes meaningful when read together with first-party signals and ICP fit. Processing personal data must be assessed under KVKK (Turkey's personal data protection law) and the GDPR.

## Why it matters

It helps sales and marketing teams reach accounts that are actively researching, at the right time. Related service: [GTM engineering and Clay](https://www.roicool.com/en/services/gtm-engineering).
