# GEO agency: be the brand AI answers recommend

Roicool is a Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) agency that gets brands cited and recommended in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. We measure which questions mention your brand, how AI describes you and which sources it draws on with Ossvy, the software we built, and plan content, technical and digital PR work from that measurement.

## What is GEO, and what do we do as a GEO agency?

Users now ask AI their questions and read a single answer instead of browsing through links. GEO, also known as AI SEO, aims to ensure your brand appears in these answers with accurate information as a recommended option. We track how your brand is mentioned on ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, as well as Claude and Microsoft Copilot.

## AI SEO and GEO: what's the difference?

SEO aims at rankings on Google's results page; GEO aims at being mentioned inside the answer that engines like ChatGPT and Gemini give. Both share the same content foundation, and they are measured differently. A detailed comparison: [GEO vs SEO vs AEO](https://www.roicool.com/en/comparisons/geo-vs-seo-vs-aeo).

## How GEO works: three foundations

AI recommends a brand only when it finds it in sources it can read, understand and trust. That is why GEO rests on three foundations:

1. **A readable site:** Most AI crawlers don't run JavaScript; we check that important content can be read without code running and that the bots aren't blocked.
2. **Quotable content:** We write so that the first sentence of every section is an answer on its own, and bring definitions and comparisons forward ([GEO content](https://www.roicool.com/en/services/geo-content), [AEO](https://www.roicool.com/en/services/aeo)).
3. **Mentions in trusted sources:** We make sure your brand is described correctly in the industry publications, guides and review platforms AI draws on.

We explain how AI picks brands in [How ChatGPT chooses brands](https://www.roicool.com/en/blog/how-chatgpt-chooses-brands).

## Measurement: Ossvy, the software we built

We built [Ossvy](https://ossvy.com) to measure AI visibility. Ossvy regularly asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity the questions your customers ask, and records whether your brand is mentioned, how it is described and which sources are shown.

Every GEO engagement starts with this measurement, and the monthly reports show the change on the same set of questions. So the answer to "has our visibility improved?" is not a guess but a measurement repeated with the same method.

To see where you stand before starting: an [AI visibility analysis](https://www.roicool.com/en/services/ai-visibility-analysis) or our [free AI tools](https://www.roicool.com/en/tools). The method in detail: [How to measure AI visibility](https://www.roicool.com/en/blog/how-to-measure-ai-visibility).

## What happens in the first 90 days?

1. **Days 0–30:** Setting the question set your customers ask, the first visibility measurement, and an audit of how open your site is to AI crawlers.
2. **Days 31–60:** Technical fixes, restructuring priority pages to be quotable, correcting wrong information at its source.
3. **Days 61–90:** Earning mentions in sources, a second measurement on the same question set, and the priorities for the next period.

## How to choose a GEO agency

- **Do they promise guarantees?** AI answers change by person and time; a promise of "you'll be number one" isn't realistic.
- **How do they measure?** Do they test the same question set regularly, with the same method?
- **Do they know the technical side?** Are bot access, page structure and structured data in scope?
- **Can they fix wrong information?** Do they find which source an error comes from and correct it there?
- **Do they think together with SEO?** Both share the same content foundation and shouldn't run separately.

## If AI isn't recommending your brand, it's recommending your competitor.

When potential customers look for a service, they now ask ChatGPT questions like "Which dental clinic do you recommend in Istanbul?" Instead of a long list, they see a few brand names and a short reason. The right strategy is to make sure AI recognises your brand, gives accurate information about you and sees you as a reliable source. That takes three things: a site AI bots can read, content written clearly enough to be quoted directly, and mentions of your brand in the industry publications, guides and review platforms AI draws on.

### You're missing from the AI answer

If you aren't in that answer, your customer never sees you while deciding.

### Bots can't read your site

Most crawlers, such as GPTBot and PerplexityBot, don't run JavaScript.

### The answer is buried in the text

The content is long, but there's no clear sentence that can be quoted on its own.

### Your brand is described wrongly

Old prices, closed branches, services you no longer offer.

### Competitors get cited

ChatGPT and Perplexity cite your competitor's page instead of yours.

## How a GEO engagement runs

1. **Question set and target pages:** We define the questions your customers ask, measure where your brand stands in those answers today and choose the pages that should answer them.
2. **Reworking the existing pages:** We make the chosen pages readable for bots without running code and rewrite them so the first sentence of each section is an answer on its own.
3. **New content briefs and production:** For questions still left unanswered, we write briefs with definitions, comparison tables and sourced figures, and produce the content.
4. **Monthly measurement:** We test the same question set again every month and show the change in the monthly report.

## FAQ

### What does a GEO agency do?

A GEO agency makes sure AI answers describe the brand correctly and cite it as a source. It does this by putting the sources AI draws on in order (the brand's own site, directories, news, forums) and by measuring the result regularly.

### What is the difference between GEO and SEO?

SEO aims at rankings on Google's results page. GEO aims at being mentioned inside the answer that engines like ChatGPT and Gemini give. Both share the same content foundation; they are measured differently.

### How is AI visibility measured?

By regularly asking ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity the questions the brand's customers ask, and recording the brand's mention rate, how it is described and which sources are shown. We run this measurement with Ossvy, the software we built .

### Which AI platforms are included in the coverage?

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot. Each platform has a different approach to selecting sources—Perplexity relies more on live web searches, while ChatGPT combines training data with search. Therefore, both the work and the measurement are segmented by platform.

### How long does it take to see results from GEO work?

When technical access issues are resolved, initial changes can be observed within weeks. Areas requiring brand authority and third-party mentions typically take 3–6 months. We do not provide a guarantee on exact timing; results are volatile because language models can show different sources for the same question at different times.

### How is the GEO service priced?

The price depends on your current visibility, the number of questions and topics to cover, the number of target languages and the volume of content to produce. We always start with a visibility audit; its output makes both the scope and the budget clear. You can see our starting price on our pricing page ; the exact figure is set in a written quote for your scope.

### Why doesn't my brand appear in ChatGPT?

The four most common reasons: your site is blocked to AI bots via robots.txt, your content is not structured in a Q&A format, there are insufficient mentions of your brand in third-party sources, and you lack structured data (schema). Models rely on both their training data and live web searches; if you are not present in either, you will not appear in the response.

### I already do SEO; do I need GEO as well?

Strong SEO is the foundation of GEO, but it is not enough on its own. A page that ranks first on Google might not appear in a ChatGPT response at all, because models do not look at rankings, but rather at the quotability of the content and the context surrounding the brand. If your existing SEO infrastructure is solid, progress on the GEO side will be significantly faster.

### Does showing up in AI really bring traffic and sales?

Traffic from AI answers is still small compared with classic search, but its intent is high: the user is already in the middle of a decision. The more important side is this: if you are not in the answer, that answer is recommending your competitor. GEO is better treated not as a short-term traffic channel but as the work of keeping your share of mentions in your category.
