# Conversion rate calculator. What share of your visitors convert?

Conversion rate is the share of visitors to a page or campaign who take the action you want (a purchase, a form, a call): conversions divided by visitors, times 100.

## Your numbers

\*\*Visitors (sessions)\*\*: Visitors to the page or campaign in the same period.

\*\*Conversions\*\*: Sales, form submissions or calls.

\*\*Target conversion rate (%)\*\* (optional): If entered, shows the conversions the same traffic would bring.

## Worked example

| Input | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Visitors (sessions) | 5,000 |
| Conversions | 100 |
| Target conversion rate (%) | 3% |

| Result | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Conversion rate | 2% |
| Visitors per conversion | 50 |
| Conversions at target | 150 |
| Extra conversions | 50 |

## How it’s calculated Conversions over visitors, as a percentage.

- Conversion rate = Conversions ÷ Visitors × 100
- Visitors per conversion = Visitors ÷ Conversions
- Conversions at target = Visitors × Target rate

Conversion rate is the share of visitors to a page or campaign who take the action you want (a purchase, a form, a call): conversions divided by visitors, times 100.

Conversion rate is most useful for tracking the same page or campaign over time; comparing rates across industries misleads.

The target line shows what an improvement is worth: a higher conversion rate without more traffic means more results from the same budget.

Mind which traffic you compute it for: the rate for all site traffic and for ad traffic usually differ.

## Limits

- With few visitors the rate swings; a handful of conversions moves it a lot.
- Sessions and users are different counts; use the same one when comparing.
- To see whether a change really lifts the rate, plan enough traffic with our A/B test sample size calculator.

## FAQ

### How do you calculate conversion rate?

Divide conversions by visitors and multiply by 100. 100 conversions from 5,000 visitors is a 2% conversion rate.

### What is a good conversion rate?

It varies a lot by industry, traffic source and the action asked for, so there is no single good rate. The most reliable measure is how your own rate changes over time.

### How do you increase conversion rate?

The landing page's match with the ad message, page speed, a short form and trust signals (reviews, case studies) are the areas that most often matter. Measure changes with an A/B test.
